About

Dr Balbir Barn is Professor of Software Engineering and Associate Dean for Business at Middlesex University's School of Engineering and Information Science. At the School, Balbir is responsible for developing and maintaining a range of collaborations with Business at a both national and international level. Collaborations range from contract research to development of bespoke education delivery. Prior to Academia, Balbir worked extensively on methods and tools for business process modeling and component based design at Texas Instruments Research Labs and Sterling Software.

Balbir completed in PhD from University of Bath in 1987 in the area of graphical interaction management and his research interest are broadly in the field of software engineering but with a specific focus on conceptual modeling, methodology design, and component based software architecture.

Since entering academia, Balbir has been the recipient of over £2 million in grants for which he has been the PI. These projects have ranged from developing business process reference models for Higher Education (COVARM), business process modeling methods and tools (PSPEX, COVa), mobile application design (mPLAT, REMORA) and more recently, software methods and the application of domain specific languages for enterprise architecture and visual analytics.
